We've moved your Everyday Account onto a faster, cheaper network, and there's very little you need to do about it. If you're curious what actually changed and why we think it's a good move, that's what the rest of this is for.
What you'll notice
Three things stand out:
- It's fast. Transfers settle in around five seconds, whether you're sending across town or across the world. It lands before you've set your phone down.
- It's basically free. Network fees are a fraction of a cent, and we cover them on your Stellar sends anyway.
- It's reliable. The network has run for over a decade with 99.99% uptime, so your account is there the moment you need it.
Small changes on paper. The kind you feel every time you use the account.
Why we made the call
We looked at where value is actually moving and picked the best payment network we could put your account on. Not the loudest chain. The one built for moving stablecoins: fast, cheap, reliable. Franklin Templeton runs a US-registered fund on it. PayPal put its stablecoin there. We think they read it right, and we would rather be early than fashionably late.
Your existing USDC on Base
One thing to sort out. You've got two options, and we'd go with the first.
- Move it to Stellar (our pick). Swap your USDC on Base to USDC on Stellar, free, in a couple of taps. Same amount, now on the faster network and right where you'll use it. (Available outside the EU.)
- Keep it on Base. Rather leave it as is? It moves to your Crypto tab, still yours and fully usable. Send, receive, top up and withdraw all keep working.
Either way it's the same USDC; you're just choosing where it lives. And if you use Earn, nothing there moves: your deposited USDC stays exactly where it is and keeps earning.
A quick word on Stellar
Stellar is an open, public network built for one job: moving value between people, quickly and cheaply. It has handled payments from day one, while most chains added them later. Its stated mission is "equitable access to the global financial system." Ours is simpler but points the same way: make crypto work for actual people, not just the fluent few. That alignment is most of why we are here.
The start of something bigger
Faster, cheaper payments are the beginning, not the whole story.
Because your account runs on Stellar now, it is connected to rails that reach well beyond the app. Those rails already plug into MoneyGram's global cash network, and bringing that within reach of your account is exactly where we are headed next.
There is more coming, too, for people who actually use their account, including bigger rewards for doing the things you already do.
For now, your account is ready. Have a look around.
We're rolling this out gradually, so if you don't see the new experience in your app yet, it'll be there soon.
