Stellar launched in 2014, founded by Jed McCaleb and Joyce Kim with the Stellar Development Foundation behind it. The goal from day one was straightforward: build a network that moves money the way the internet moves information, quickly, cheaply, and without needing a bank in the middle of every transfer.
That network runs on something called the Stellar Consensus Protocol, or SCP. There is no energy intensive mining involved. Transactions typically settle in a matter of seconds, and the fee for a standard transaction is a tiny fraction of a cent, which is what makes Stellar practical for actually sending money around rather than just holding it.
In 2019, the Stellar Development Foundation made a decision that turned heads: it burned roughly half of the total XLM supply, cutting it from over 100 billion tokens down to about 50 billion. The idea was to keep the token supply realistic and aligned with what the network actually needed.
Today, Stellar is best known for cross-border payments. Circle issues USDC directly on the network, MoneyGram lets people cash digital dollars in and out at physical locations around the world, and organizations like the UN refugee agency have piloted using Stellar to get aid to displaced people faster. For a lot of people, buying XLM is less about speculation and more about tapping into a network built to move money the way information already moves online.

Need help?
We’ve got you covered.
How long does it take to receive Stellar after I buy it?
Most purchases arrive within a few minutes. Stellar itself settles in seconds, so any delay usually comes from the payment method rather than the network.
What payment methods can I use to buy XLM?
You can buy Stellar with a credit or debit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, a bank transfer, or a range of local payment options depending on your region.
Do I need to open an account on a crypto exchange first?
No. Ramp Network sends Stellar directly to the wallet or exchange address you provide, so there is no need to set up a separate exchange account first.
Can I send Stellar to any type of wallet?
Yes. You can add a self-custodial wallet such as Lobstr, Freighter, or a hardware wallet, or send XLM straight to a supported exchange account.
Is it safe to buy Stellar through Ramp Network?
Yes. Your XLM is sent directly to the address you provide and Ramp Network does not hold your funds after the purchase is complete.
What fees should I expect when buying Stellar?
Ramp Network shows a clear breakdown of fees before you confirm anything, so you always know the cost upfront no matter which payment method you pick.
Where can I use Ramp Network to buy Stellar?
Ramp Network operates in a wide range of countries and regions, though availability can vary by location and is confirmed during checkout.
