Stellar has been around since 2014, and it was built with a narrow, practical goal: move value from one place to another as fast and as cheaply as possible. Jed McCaleb and Joyce Kim set up the network with the Stellar Development Foundation behind it, and that focus on plain, fast transfers has stuck around ever since.
Instead of mining, Stellar runs on the Stellar Consensus Protocol, which lets a set of validators agree on the ledger in a matter of seconds. Fees sit at a tiny fraction of a cent per transaction, which is a big part of why Stellar shows up so often in remittance corridors and stablecoin rails, including USDC issued directly on the network by Circle.
None of that changes when you are swapping instead of holding. XLM moves through the network the same way, so exchanging it for another asset does not add delay or cost on top of what the network already does well.
